"Greenhouse Effect" - Paulo Zerbato/2012

The Equation

24 September 2012
By Ivan Carswell

Take idiots out of the equation,
insert known facts, allow some
speculation on origins of exotic
beliefs and what have you got?

Obviously not much more than
what already is – but possibly
a place to start understanding
that which we now face.

So-called stupidity in high places
isn’t dysfunctional as much as
two faced when knowing where
the profit clearly goes.

Knowing who pays and profits
says why large scale resistance
to greenhouse effect’s wholesale
and effectively enduring

Call it global warming, climate
change, Gods Will if you must
but don’t descend to the pits of
blatantly scatological debate

Who’s to blame for an excess of
gaseous emissions is no contest
unless you’ve a way to make
bucks out of curing the ill –

Then you set yourself up as a
disciple for change expressing
Peoples Will self-righteously
and flaying the opposition

Sure – hot air well inflated, but
you’re showing where sceptics
daren’t go unless they’re paid
as they all claim

Breaking Down Barriers And....Building Bridges

"Building Bridges" - Paulo Zerbato/2011

Breaking Down Barriers
Monday, May 14, 2012

Now you might think that this blog post title has to do with physical barriers: it doesn't. Not that they don't exist. 'Cause they do.
But this catch phrase has been part of my life and my consciousness for SO MANY YEARS!
I am a person who likes to break down barriers.
I respect authority, I respect formality, but it doesn't mean I have to like doing so.
......

It pleased me what a little friendliness could do and how far it could go.

These days you don't find me much in blogland; I much prefer Facebook, and over my three-plus years of giving myself over to that wicked, time-sucking medium, I have broken down other barriers. I have become Facebook friends with celebrities, comedians among them. I still put "Facebook" in front of "friend" in their cases because I'm realistic. We're not friends, but with several, I do more than just write a comment about their status update, I often write them an off-line message. There is one such celebrity with whom I did so, and as a result, I created some poetry, inspired by some of his artwork and stories, and he created some poetry, based on my inspiration. How thrilled I was to learn that his creative mind was inspired by my offline "conversations"!
To know that my words and comments -- whether online or offline -- are leaving some kind of impression on a FB friend gives me great joy. To get a thumbs' up or a response directly related to my comment gives me double joy.
I will still refer to some of these people as Facebook friends, but I know for a fact that one of them has referred to me simply as "friend".  I have seen her use it in print, I have heard her use it on Internet radio.
And then I smile because I know...that I have managed to break down barriers. It's all about jumping on a bandwagon, becoming a back-seat passenger for a while, and then slowly inching to the front-seat passenger seat, alongside the driver ... helping to navigate or just be a friendly companion.
To be a reader on FB is one thing; to be an active participant is another. It is thrilling to think that over on the other side of the country there are celebrity types who read my words and smile, just as I do with theirs. To think that one can have an ongoing personal type of rapport with someone who not all that long ago was a familiar, well-liked but distant person whose path you'd hope to cross but couldn't imagine having the chance to do so. ..
As was once a familiar expression: "Who'd have thunk it?"
It pays to be friendly and have no airs about you, it pays to know when to listen and when to speak, it pays to have an honest interest in what is happening in people's lives -- along with sometimes displaying just the "right" measure of chutzpah.

I have extended my hand to many people in this life, I have extended an ear, as well. To break down barriers, one has to see, one has to listen, and one has to hear what the other person is saying. Reception works both ways...
It just occurred  to me that maybe the title of this post should be amended to BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS AND....BUILDING BRIDGES

Curtain Interposed Between The Body And The Soul

Verse by dear friend/artist Barbara Saint Jean

Behind the Veil
Far from the truth
Hidden from others
Who have something to prove?
A mask of meaning
A curtain of shame
A culture of secrets
Concealing a game
The shroud of Turin
A cloak of pain
A blanket of torture What’s in a name?

Tell me

A Grande Ilusão Das Redes Sociais

Ilustração para o Blog: ZERO212

"Multiple Personalities" - Paulo Zerbato/2011

Being Muslim In Malaysia Is So Wonderful!

"Oppression" - Paulo Zerbato/2009

Being Muslim in Malaysia is so wonderful!

By Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos

Musings on how wonderful it is being a Muslim in Malaysia with numerous religious departments, even more religious officers, and religious scholars in politics too – all selflessly ensuring Muslims will never have to pull a muscle thinking or go astray.
Someone told me I was wrong in thinking that it is difficult being a Muslim in Malaysia. So, I thought about it. He is right. It is wonderful being Muslim in Malaysia. I realised that we are the only country in the world where we have 13 muftis! Other countries have only ONE mufti per country but we have 13 which mean we Muslims are lucky. We are lucky because more heads are better than one right? We can get more Islamic knowledge and input. Is that not wonderful? Furthermore, with more heads, we do not have to use our head to think about all the "difficult and complex" shariah laws, rules, exegesis, etc. We can just leave it to the experts and we are left with more time for our lives. Is that not wonderful? Is it not wonderful that we also have 13 religious departments in every state to constantly remind us of what is Islamic and what is not? This shows how seriously we take our religion, as compared to other countries that do not have this many religious departments.

Voluntary Blindness To The Real Truth

Text performed by Perry Yusuf Frisnedy Cruz (  Taguig City / Philippines )
to complement my artwork.

"Know that man is enemy to himself....
Imprisoned by his own selfish thoughts,
Arrogant, seeing himself as know-it-all....
Eyes wide shut, for only what is true to him is what he perceives as sole truths....
Mind clouded, blurry visions, blinded in the end....would not bear to see other images nor to hear other voices....
Works hard to increase his lot....
But all his efforts only INCREASE the size of the walls of his prison....
A prison of his own making...."

"The Birth Of The Symbolic Human Being" - Paulo Zerbato/2010

Poem:

நான் நன்றாகத்தான் விளையாடுவேனாம்;

நன்றாகத்தான் படிப்பேனாம்;

நன்றாகத்தான் வேலை பார்க்கின்றேனாம்;

"Peace of Mind" - Paulo Zerbato/2011

Discovering The Magical Symbolism of Egypt

Discovering The Magical Symbolism of Egypt

Egypt is a land with pyramids and colossal Pharaonic history. It is quintessential Mecca of mysticism and riddles. Every passage of history has been closely linked to the existence of supernatural powers, creating a universe populated by fascinating legends and myths. This universe is sustained largely by the magical symbolism of Egypt, and today we help you find out.

Light In The Void

Illustration for the Website: Light In The Void

"Tree Of Dreams" - Paulo Zerbato/2010

Light in the Void

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
